Day School
A day full of lectures, debates and movies organized by the International
Socialists Karachi
The
ruling class can only give war, military operations, rising prices,
unemployment, strife and worries to the people. The political, economic and
social crisis forces Gen Musharraf and his cronies to attack judiciary,
lawyers, war on terror compels it to attack people of Swat, Waziristan,
Balochistan and the what it calls development allows capitalists to rake in
huge profits while poor suffer. Their war is for occupation, to capture
strategically important locations, oil and imperialist aspirations. Traditional
politics has failed, people can no longer wait for the trickle down effect.
People have little hope with the parliament while it seeks greater share in
power with those who have ruined lives in past 8 years. Rulers are scared
and forced to give relief to the people but what sort of reforms will come
through squarely depends on the pressure from below, the rising movements
led by lawyers. The day school will discuss these and other key issues
facing social movements and the left, and the relevance of Marxist
strategies and ideas to changing the world.
